The challenge of criminal trials during the pandemic is the frequent disconnection of internet connections, while defendants participate through Zoom meetings from detention centers/prisons. As a result, the proof process is not optimal and takes a very long time, in addition to the uncertainty of trial schedules. Despite these challenges, the HMA Advocaten team respected the judges' verdict and did not appeal because the sentence imposed was lighter than the maximum criminal threat of Article 170 of the Criminal Code, which is 5 years and 6 months. It's regrettable, as restitution for the victim, compensation for goods, deterrence effects, and orderliness have been fulfilled in Bojong Koneng. This case arguably did not need to go to court if the police and prosecutors had initially accepted the request for restorative justice, considering the damages were only IDR 1,610,000.
